Artist statement

When I was a child I wanted to become an inventor. An artist is an inventor who doesn't need to invent anything new, the act of invention has its own intrinsic value. An artist has the freedom to invent and realize things that happen on the borderline of society or outside it, the art audience is what tethers an artist to the ground. An artist can break the rules and still be accepted through he audience.
My creative work is often practical. I face a problem and find a solution for it: I frequently need to change working spaces so I create a portable working space, my neighbor disturbs my sleep renovating so I build a treehouse to sleep in, my longing for peaceful place of my own gets me building an artificial island.
I create solutions for myself, not others. Yet I hope that my actions encourage others to try similar things. Part of my work is anonymous, I believe the end result is more important than the person behind it. In my case art is not the physical result of a creative process but rather a phenomenon happening in the plane between my creative work and personal life and the rest of society.

Lapsena halusin tulla keksijäksi. Taiteilija on keksijä jonka ei tarvitse keksiä uutta, keksiminen on itseisarvo. Taiteilijalla on vapaus keksiä ja toteuttaa asioita jotka tapahtuvat tavallisen yhteiskunnan rajalla tai sen ulkopuolella, taideyleisö on taiteilijan maahan yhdistävä napanuora. Taiteilija voi rikkoa sääntöjä ja tulla yleisönsä kautta silti hyväksytyksi.
Luova toimintani on usein käytännönläheistä. Kohtaan ongelman ja etsin siihen ratkaisun: joudun vaihtamaan työtilaa ja rakennan liikkuvan työpisteen, en saa unta naapurin remontilta ja päätän rakentaa puumajan jossa nukkua, kaipuu omaan rauhaan ja tilaan saa minut rakentamaan omaa saarta.
Luon ratkaisuja itselleni, en muille. Toivon kuitenkin että toimintani yllyttää muitakin tekemään samankaltaisia asioita. Osa tuotannostani on anonyymiä, uskon lopputuloksen olevan tärkeämpi kuin henkilö sen takana. Minun tapauksessani taide ei ole luovan prosessin fyysinen lopputulos vaan ilmiö joka tapahtuu oman elämäni, luovan työni ja muun yhteiskunnan rajapinnalla.
